Targeted tax cuts

The Government should consider giving businesses a series of “targeted and modest” tax cuts to boost growth, according to the CBI.

They specifically call for a simplification of taxes on carbon emissions and a lower raise in air passenger duty, in the belief that these changes will  create new growth opportunities.

While this would encourage growth, are such dramatic measures really feasible in the current economic climate of Government cuts? Or is it exactly such a measure which could pull the public sector out of its current slump?
