Attack of the raccoons
Raccoons in an American suburb are terrorising residents and their pets – so much so that people have taken to carrying weapons to ward them off. MSNBC.com reports that one woman who was attacked now carries an iron pipe when she goes outside at night. Tamara Keeton, who has started a ‘raccoon watch’, said: “It’s a new breed. They’re urban raccoons, and they’re not afraid.“After the deaths of ten cats and a case in which five raccoons tried to carry off a small dog, pet owners are now keeping animals inside. Resident Tony Benjamins said: “We used to love the raccoons. They’d have their babies this time of year, and they were so cute. Even though we lived in the city, it was neat to have wildlife around, but this year, things changed. They went nuts.”
