Education provider boosts network with new partners

An education provider has strengthened its portfolio with fresh industry partnerships.

The North East Institute of Technology has added TDR Training, Durham University and Darlington College to its network.

Bosses say the expansion “marks a significant milestone in its mission to build a more cohesive and employer-endorsed skills system”.

They add the institutions will help address the “urgent need” for higher technical skills in advanced manufacturing and engineering, construction and the built environment, and digital and artificial intelligence.

Acting as a bridge between education and industry, the North East Institute of Technology works to match curriculum with business and economic needs.

Its network already includes Bishop Auckland, Derwentside, Hartlepool, New College Durham, East Durham, Middlesbrough and Tyne Coast colleges, alongside Newcastle University and lead employer partners Esh Group and Nissan.

Dr Sharon Grant, North East Institute of Technology director, said: “The addition of TDR Training, Durham University and Darlington College is another important step forward.

“This growing partnership strengthens our ability to respond to employer demand.”

Li Xue, chief executive of Newcastle-based TDR Training, said: “Our aim is to raise aspirations, support employers and create more opportunities for young people and adults.

“Collaboration is the best way to build a stronger and more connected skills system for the North East.”

Professor Jacquie Robson, Durham University associate pro vice-chancellor and the university’s North East Institute of Technology lead, said: “This collaboration ensures people across the region can access the high-quality technical skills and opportunities they deserve and that the region needs.”

Carole Todd, Darlington College deputy chief executive and principal, added: “This strengthens our ability to deliver high-level technical education, gives students access to industry-standard facilities and employer links, and ensures our provision is closely aligned to the skills employers need.”
