Golf network tees up £22,500 charity boost

A North East corporate golf network has raised more than £22,500 for two regional charities, taking its total fundraising beyond £80,000.

Golf in the City (GITC) raised £22,592 through its fourth annual charity golf day and dinner at Ramside Hall Hotel, with the proceeds being shared equally between The Teesside Charity and NE Youth.

The event brought businesses from across the region together for golf, networking and fundraising.

Mandy Shields, representing The Teesside Charity, said the funding would make a real difference to people and communities across Teesside, while Jon Niblo, of NE Youth, welcomed the support for his organisation.

Mandy said: “We are incredibly grateful to Golf in the City and everyone who supported this fantastic event.

“The money raised will help us continue supporting people across Teesside and make a genuine difference where it is needed most.”

Jon added: “The support from Golf in the City is fantastic and will help us create more opportunities for young people across the North East.

“Fundraising partnerships like this allow us to continue supporting young people to connect with their communities, develop their potential and build positive futures.”

Members of the GITC network supporting the event included Matthew Brady, of Ward Hadaway, and Will Fatherley, of Pro Fire Safety, alongside Jenna Maw, of FRP Advisory.

Matthew added: “Golf in the City is about much more than golf.

“It brings North East businesses together, creates valuable relationships and, importantly, provides an opportunity to give something back to the communities we all operate in.

“Raising more than £22,500 in one day and taking the total raised through the annual event beyond £80,000 is a fantastic achievement and testament to the generosity of everyone involved.”

Marc Millar, a financial adviser with Cleadon-based North Wealth Management, part of St James’s Place, and a founder member of the GITC committee, said the latest total demonstrated the strength of the network and its commitment to supporting regional causes.

He said: “The whole purpose of Golf in the City is to bring people together through golf and business, but the charity side has become an increasingly important part of what we do.

“Reaching more than £80,000 raised over four years is something the committee and everyone involved can be incredibly proud of.

“We would like to thank all the businesses, golfers and supporters who helped make this year’s event such a success.”

Run entirely by a volunteer committee, GITC hosts eight events annually at golf venues across the North East and Teesside.

Its programme combines corporate networking with fundraising opportunities, with the latest event pushing the amount generated for local charities since its launch to more than £80,000.
