£208 million framework builds extra care pipeline

A £208 million construction framework is set to support the delivery of new extra care and supported housing across the North East and Yorkshire.

Karbon Homes has appointed Robertson Group, Caddick Construction and Esh Group to the multi-supplier framework, which will provide principal contractor services for future developments.

Projects are expected to include specialist extra care schemes ranging from 80 to 150 apartments, alongside associated residential and housing developments.

The framework comes as Karbon increases investment in extra care housing to meet growing demand for affordable homes that allow people with additional care and support needs to live independently for longer.

Designed to streamline procurement, the agreement will support a pipeline of future projects while focusing on quality, value and sustainability.

Karbon already has several extra care developments underway across the North East in partnership with local authorities.

They include 95 apartments in Hebburn and a 124-apartment development in South Shields, both being delivered by Robertson Construction North East and scheduled for first completions by the end of 2027.

An 84-apartment scheme in Morpeth, being delivered in partnership with Northumberland County Council, is due for completion in the new year.

All three developments will provide modern, energy-efficient homes designed for older people and those requiring additional care and support.

Framework contracts are due to begin later this month and will initially run for five years until September 2031, with the option of a further two-year extension.
