Builder 'lays growth base' with record revenues
A building contractor has hailed strong growth foundations after reporting record turnover.
Brims Construction saw earnings rise to a best-ever £70 million in the year to March 31.
Bosses say the uptick marks a fifth consecutive year of revenue growth and leaves the business “well placed to build on its success”.
And they add the company is primed to bolster its progress further, thanks to a move to new headquarters at Ravensworth House, in Team Valley, which they say “will support the next stage of its development” and capitalise on a near £90 million future work book.
According to latest figures, the Gateshead-based company’s progress – which also saw pre-tax profit rise 26 per cent to £5.31 million – was fuelled by work on projects including Sunderland’s £15.6 million Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy.
The company, which operates a sister Stockton-on-Tees office, also boosted its order book with a £4.5 million Barbour refurbishment and fit-out; a Northumberland sixth form centre; and an office and factory refurbishment for Newcastle-based subsea engineering firm SMD.
Ian Clift, commercial director at the 200-strong staff firm, said: “These results demonstrate the strength of the business and the confidence our clients place in us.
“Five consecutive years of revenue growth, alongside increased profitability, reflect the hard work of our people and a clear focus on delivering projects well.”
Director Richard Wood added: “Our new headquarters represent our confidence in the future of the business and our commitment to the North East.
“With a strong secured workload and the capacity to invest in our future, we are well placed to build on that success.”
