If you are stuck for something to do this weekend, have a look at our last minute listings to keep you busy on your days off.

Gibside Estate Open Day - Gibside, Burnopfield, Gateshead. Sat and Sun Sep 10-11. Free entry.

A great opportunity to enjoy the 18th century landscape park and nature reserve. Take a look inside the spectacular Georgian Banqueting House and if you’re feeling brave enough there will be a rare opening of the Gibside Crypt where former owner and industrialist George Bowes is buried.

The walled garden, palladian chapel and bountiful wildlife make Gibside the ideal place to spend the day in beautiful surroundings. Reach the Column of Liberty to get a fantastic panorama or perhaps learn about “the unhappy countess,” Mary Eleanor Bowes.

This open weekend will involve behind-the-scenes look at the Stables, hands-on conservation activities and outdoor family adventures.

Theatre and Arts
Oh, The Humanity & Other Good Intentions - The Northern Stage (formally Newcastle Playhouse). Fri Sep 9-Sat Sep 24.

New York playwright Will Eno presents five short plays about “people like you, facing lives like yours.” Adapted from the play Peer Gynt by Norwegian Henrik Isben, the five plays expose the terrible hope and hilarious uncertainty of life.

This is the headline event for the Northern Stage’s Humanity season which is a series of events “celebrating the beautiful contradictions of life as a human being.”

Museums and Exhibitions
Flotsam and Jetsam Tour Exhibition-Holy Biscuit Gallery in Shieldfield, Newcastle.__11am-5pm. Sep 9 -Mon 12.

This exhibition will showcase the culmination of a four month project - “The Walker Challenge” involving adults experiencing or recovering from mental ill-health. In travelling the length of the Northumberland coastal path they have produced a body of art-work and photographs that will be displayed at the evening.

Music
Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin - The Sage Gateshead. 7.30pm Sat Sep 10.

The legendary leader of the Beach Boys appears at The Sage. Expect songs from his new album of reworked George and Ira Gershwin songs, along with a smattering of classic Beach Boys hits. Wilson appears with his band the Peppermints, renowned for their lush vocal harmonies and towering orchestrations.

Family
Wallace and Gromit present…A World of Cracking Ideas - Life Science Centre, Newcastle. Sat 9, 10am - 6pm (last entry 3.30pm). Sun 10 11am - 5pm (last entry 2.30pm).

This exhibition uses the Oscar winning characters famous home on 62 West Wallaby Street to allow you to explore a world of innovation. Each room in the house is full of hands-on activities, games, including a karaoke shower.

Comedy
The Grinning Idiot Presents: Adam Bloom, Diane Morgan, Gary Delaney and John Smith. - The Journal Tyne Theatre. Fri Sep 9.

This triple bill with MC John Smith features some award winning comedians. Adam Bloom is the clean cut Polygram Award winner for best stand-up at the Edinburgh Festival while Diane Morgan has made TV, theatre and radio appearances since starting stand up in 2004. Gary Delany brings his razor sharp, quickfire oneliner style.

Cinema
New Screen New-Castle - The Tyneside Cinema. Sat Sep 10. 10am-5pm. No ticket needed.

Part of a 3-day festival with screenings at The Outsiders Newcastle, Side Cinema and Tyneside Cinema, celebrating the best of international video art. Short films and video works from across the world including artists from Norway and Finland.
