Start up Sunderland is fertile ground for co-working

As technology increasingly ‘shrinks’ the world in many ways, with new communication methods seemingly springing up everyday, it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that the majority of real business still takes place face-to-face, person-to-person.

Relatively new options for start ups and established businesses, such as working from home or using virtual office facilities, present fantastic opportunities, but time and again I hear the same message from the very people operating in these conditions: “Everything’s great, apart from one thing. I still feel I need a place to go, to communicate face-to-face, be it with clients, suppliers, or just other humans!”

It is for these reasons that we are set to introduce co-working as an additional service amongst the many that we offer to start ups and established businesses here at the North east BIC.

The concept itself is not new. Of course, we’ve worked alongside people and colleagues for centuries, if not millennia! It is the recent trends outlined above, that have created a new need for specific facilities.

The benefits don’t take long to present themselves: working alongside others allows all kinds of connections to be made and additional knowledge to be readily available. Essential elements for building business, such as motivation and support, are ever present in the form of fellow co-workers.

Whether workers need facilities on a semi-permanent basis, or just need to drop in when needing a change of scenery, the BIC’s co-working hotspot will provide the technical kit needed to get up and running in minutes, as well as easy access to the range of facilities we have available for businesses on site.
