Solar Powered Ice

The Polar Krush Group, the UK’s leading manufacturer of frozen drinks, has reinforced its commitment to environmental responsibility by installing 212 PV solar panels on the roof of their office and manufacturing facility.

The Ashington based company, which produces a range of naturally flavoured frozen drinks and boasts thousands of customers in the UK and overseas, now powers their entire commercial and manufacturing operation with the 50,000 kwh’s of solar generated electricity that their panels produce each year.

The move supports the company’s introduction of Electric Vehicles into its pool of company cars last year and its company-wide commitment to becoming carbon neutral. Polar Krush currently uses a Nissan Leaf car, with two additional EV cars on order, and its exploring the introduction of electric vans into the business.

The business has also developed an environmentally friendly, concentrated fruit juice product. Green Juice, which The Polar Krush Group supply to hotels, hospitals and care homes across the country, has reduced the amount of packaging and vehicles required in delivering it to customers by up to 85%.

Paul Goldfinch, Commercial Director of The Polar Krush Group, say that the installation of the solar panels will be another opportunity for the company to boost its green credentials. “We’re very conscious of the impact that we, as a business, can have on the environment so we are fully committed to taking steps to reduce that impact.”
