Scandinavia: the focus of market opportunities

The North East exports industry continued to grow during 2011, with the figures from the last quarter bringing the 12-monthly total up to a record £13.5 billion.

One of just eight English regions to witness a growth, the North East also recorded an increase in the number of firms involved in international trade, a trend the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) is keen to further encourage.

Joining forces with the UKTI and the Honorary Swedish Consul – Caroline Theobald, the BIC will be hosting ‘Focus on Scandinavia’ on Wednesday 21st March to showcase the array of support available for businesses looking to expand into new market places.

David Howell, Director of Operation at the BIC said: “As a member of the European Business and Innovation Centre Network (EBN) we receive a number of enquiries from organisations eager to establish themselves in the UK and from companies who looking at new international markets; and with a significant rise in interest in Scandinavia felt now would be an ideal opportunity to focus on this area.”

Hosted by Caroline Theobald, the panel of experts will include Bob Beresford, International Trade Adviser - UKTI; David Howell, Director of Operations - North East BIC and Piero Alberici, Coach - Generate North LLP.

An informal event, featuring a live case study and a practical guide to growing your business in Scandinavia, it will also include an overview of the EBN Soft Landing programme; an initiative designed to enable businesses to explore new market opportunities by offering business support and short term premises solutions.

Focus on Scandinavia will take place at the North East BIC at 5.30pm – 7.30pm; to reserve a place or to post a question to the panel email victoria.thompson@ne-bic.co.uk
