Sleep Science Brings Mammoth Breakthrough

An entrepreneurial North East business that put the science into sleep with its new range of health mattresses, is celebrating a market breakthrough following support received from NBSL.

Mammoth Technologies, founded only in 2009, has developed a range of mattresses that have been scientifically proven to provide a more restful and supported sleep. Tested by Northumbria University’s Sleep Centre Research Unit, the Mammoth Performance range uses a unique foam technology from the medical world to provide what they claim to be the most restful sleep available.

Having very quickly built up a successful on-line business providing health mattresses to some of the UK’s elite athletes, including Beijing Olympic Gold medallist, Tim Brabants (Rower) and players in both the England Rugby and Football squads, the Cramlington based company needed help to take the next step and bring its technology to a wider audience.

NBSL stepped in to provide some advice and financial support so that the company could engage a business consultant, Graeme Mills, to coach Mammoth Technologies’ Managing Director, John Tuton in launching his products in retail outlets.

John said “I’ve worked with NBSL previously and was always impressed with the easy application process. They just seem to understand how businesses work, and appreciated the need to work quickly in order to maximise this opportunity. The funding they provided enabled me to use consultant Graeme Mills to help me develop a new product and marketing strategy. This investment has already paid dividends. Leading bed shops, such as New Bridge Bedding Group based in Newcastle, quickly saw the potential of the new Mammoth Performance mattress range and its breakthrough technology that ensures the most restful sleep possible.”

Mammoth now boasts over 100 shop floor models up and down the country which are sold through independent bed retailers. Encouraged by early retail sales in the UK in January 2012, Mammoth Technologies has now begun to look at export markets and widen its range of science-backed recovery and performance products.
