Award winning SES apprentice receives further recognition

Matthew Bennett, an apprentice with specialist building services contractor, SES, has recently been presented with a prestigious accolade recognising his dedication to his apprenticeship.

Matthew, 27 from Chester-le-Street, picked up the George Coase Trophy for “Best Overall Apprentice” and “Apprentice of the Year” at the recently held Heating and Ventilating Contractors’ Association (HVCA) awards. The annual awards held at Ramside Hall in Durham recognise North East apprentices excelling in their studies in a range of categories.

Matthew was no stranger to the HVCA ceremony, having received the honour of ‘North East Mechanical Apprentice of the Year 2010’, before returning this year for his latest achievement.

Matthew continued to impress judges in 2011 by demonstrating his skill and commitment to the apprenticeship, where he gained hands on experience at Narec’s turbine testing facilities at Blyth, Northumberland. SES is currently appointed to the scheme to provide base build services and infrastructure packages.

With his training complete, Matthew is continuing his academic progress by doing an HNC in his own time to enable him to better the required qualifications for an engineering position.

Speaking about his success, Matthew said:

“I am honoured to have once again been recognised by HVCA. The George Coase trophy is such a prestigious award where I was competing against many other worthy apprentices. It really is the icing on the cake upon completing my apprenticeship and I would like to thank SES for its continued support and guidance.”

Adding his thoughts on Matthew’s win, regional director, Steve Joyce said:

“It is fantastic to be able to celebrate a success of this type, particularly in light of the company’s ongoing commitment to recruiting and training of high calibre apprentices. The self- motivation and discipline exhibited by Matthew has been rightly recognised and I am confident his apprenticeship will set him in good stead for a long and successful career as a fully qualified engineer.”
