Warwick and Manchester among best MBA programmes

Warwick and Manchester Business Schools have been ranked second and third respectively in the 2012/2013 QS Distance Online MBA Ranking, published today.

This is first global ranking for online and distance-learning MBA courses. The information was gathered by the team behind the QS World MBA Tour.

The programmes were evaluated on the basis of their employability, student quality, faculty and teaching, class experience, diversity, and how well established they are.

The Warwick Business School distance learning MBA programme has also been ranked top in the UK by The Economist.

Professor Mark Taylor, Dean of WBS said: “We bring the same quality and creativity to our distance learning students as we deliver to our full-time and executive MBA students.

“The current economic environment has led many people to choose the distance learning route to enhancing their career prospects, but to WBS this does not mean that they have to sacrifice quality. Our team here are constantly working to deliver a cutting-edge learning environment.”

The annual QS TopMBA.com Applicant Survey has shown an 11.2% increase in the amount of prospective MBA students who are primarily interested in distance learning and online MBA programmes, between 2008 and 2012.

Nunzio Quacquarelli, editor of the TopMBA Career Guide says that the new ranking reflects the pace of the fast-changing sector.

He said: “The popularity of this form of study is increasing among candidates and MBA employers as they are starting to recognize the value of programs delivered by reputable schools.

“While these programs provide a very different experience to the traditional full–time MBA, they give access to business education to a wider and growing motivated workforce who are seeking a lifestyle education, a way to learn essential managerial skills which fits with the reality of their lives.”

Warwick and Manchester were beaten to the top spot by Madrid-based IE Business School.
