EMSI Tackles Unemployment and Climate Change
Environmental Management Support Initiative(EMSI)
EMSI, launched in March 2012 and funded by the European Regional Development Fund is on a mission to get people into work and improve environmental performance in the North East.
By taking on a new employee, North East SME’s are eligible for 10 days fully funded consultancy support to either: Implement an Environmental Management System (EMS) to ISO14001 standard, or calculate a business carbon footprint. The new staff member will assist with the implementation of the EMS or calculating the carbon footprint. They can however take any role within the organisation.
One such company to take up this unique opportunity is JR Holland. By taking on a ‘green apprentice’ they have been granted the full 10 days environmental consultancy support. The apprentice has been invaluable in using newly established skills to implement the fully certified EMS. Achieving a good standard of environmental performance has been key to business growth, particularly in the public sector.
With the current extreme weather events across the North East climate change is becoming particularly prominent in people’s minds. In addition to this environmental legislation is becoming tighter, affecting more businesses than ever before, so there really is no better time to get in touch with the Environmental Academy.
