Taiwan agreement opens £750m opportunities
A UK-Taiwanese agreement between UKTI chief Nick Baird and Taipei City Government’s Mayor Hau has hopes to forge business relationships and build on the London 2012 legacy.
Mayor Hau and Nick Baird signed a Host2Host Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as Taiwan prepares to host the 2017 Universiade for university athletes.
The agreement hopes to unlock potential contracts between the two countries worth up to £750m.
The UK’s staging of the Olympic and Paralympic Games will act as a precursor to Taipei’s event, and unveil business opportunities for trade overseas.
UKTI Chief Executive Nick Baird said: “Following the unparalleled success of the London 2012 Games, UK Trade & Investment is helping British firms identify, win and deliver contracts for major sporting events all around the world.
Taiwan has already offered fruitful opportunities in the infrastructure industry, while further contracts are expected in event planning and management, security, low carbon technology and market.
