Newcastle Slumps To 24th In Van Hire League
Newcastle has slumped to 24th in a list of most searched-for locations for van hire, according to van hire price comparison service VanRental.co.uk.
The Tyneside city now sits below several much smaller towns and cities, including York, Oxford and Cambridge. VanRental.co.uk founder Roland Head says he is surprised:
“Newcastle is one of the UK’s most important cities and used to feature permanently in our top ten most popular locations list. I’m surprised it has dropped down the list so far, but all the evidence suggests that the recession is hitting the north of England harder than the south, and perhaps this is one of the reasons.”
VanRental.co.uk’s top ten most popular locations, measured by users’ van hire searches, are:
- London
- Birmingham
- Manchester
- Leeds
- Glasgow
- Nottingham
- Cardiff
- Bristol
- Liverpool
- Edinburgh
London gets more than double the number of searches of second-placed Birmingham, while 24th-placed Newcastle gets just 23% of the number of searches requests received for the capital.
The search data was taken from a sample of 220,000 search queries entered into VanRental.co.uk’s van hire location search facility.
