PATIENT SAFETY BOOST AS SALISBURY NHS FOUNDATION TRUST INVESTS IN BLOOD TRACKING TECHNOLOGY
An NHS Trust is enhancing patient safety by introducing innovative blood-tracking systems.
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has selected leading healthcare technology company MSoft eSolutions’ Bloodhound solution.
Bloodhound controls access to and from all blood fridges, providing enhanced security and safety by ensuring that only approved staff are allowed to access blood.
The firm’s blood-tracking solution provides positive identification of users and patients and in depth auditing of all bloods across each and every stage of the transfusion process – to help get the right blood into the right patient.
The Bloodhound system will be introduced at Salisbury District Hospital. The Trust is also in talks with MSoft about implementing its Bedside Management System which allows each barcoded unit of blood to be matched with the patient’s barcoded wristband in a matter of seconds.
Matt McAlister, Managing Director of MSoft eSolutions, said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to provide Salisbury District Hospital with our Bloodhound system which will further enhance patient safety.
“This is a busy Trust which has rightly recognised the importance of harnessing the very best in technology as part of its overall patient care.
“Hospitals need to know that the technology they invest in will provide them with the sophisticated, efficient and, most importantly, secure and safe systems they require.”
Caroline Mathews, the Trust’s Blood Transfusion Manager, said: “We are looking forward to working with MSoft on the successful implementation of the Bloodhound blood-tracking system at Salisbury District Hospital.”
The contract win in Salisbury is the latest success for MSoft in the South West. The company already works with a number of trusts in the region including Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust, South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust.
