Further embarrassment for the taxman
Starbucks have joined the tax scandal headlines, and this particular story highlights a key failing in the current system. That is, Starbucks were able to simultaneously tell investors that profits were up, while pulling the wool over HMRC’S eyes by reporting low profits.
Is the problem here that the game is just so unevenly balanced? Huge departments of lawyers and advisors are able to work their magic for the big boys, while HMRC are left in the wind.
