Paralympics Souvenirs Arrive At Local School

Students at Keelman’s Way School, Hebburn were in for a treat in the shape of goodies from the recently held Paralympics, kindly donated by Shepherd Engineering Services (SES), a leading building services contractor.

Staff from SES took along over 100 souvenir items from the event including Team GB towels, lunch boxes, drinks bottles, books and music CDs, some of which were signed by local singing superstar, Joe McElderry, who sang around the country at the Paralympics Torch Flame Festivals.

SES has a further connection to the school, which caters for children and young people with severe or profound and multiple learning difficulties, as it is the contractor responsible for installing the building services to the new school which opened its doors in September.

Speaking about the donation, head teacher, Paula Selby said:

“It was a lovely surprise when SES said they had some gifts for the children. The Paralympics demonstrated that people who have disabilities can achieve great things when they are given encouragement and training. This sits very well with the ethos of our school where we teach our students to become as independent as possible. Our wonderful new facility which has, among other things, a hydrotherapy pool and rebound room allow the students to engage in a range of physical activities in addition to their academic learning.”

Keelman’s Way School caters for over 100 children from the age of two to nineteen.
