What will fracking mean?

Last week, Ed Davey gave the UK thumbs up for shale gas fracking. In the States, significant investment has resulted from the discovery of such sizeable fuel reserves.

The process is controversial, but parking the environmental concerns for a moment; could we expect shale gas discoveries to set us back in the move towards a more balanced energy mix?
