5 Ways to Market Your New Business
I’ll be honest. I’ve never been a fan of these ‘X many ways to market your business’ blog posts. At least, not until I actually found myself typing ‘ways to market a new business’ into Google… woops.
About three months ago I set up my first (proper) company, and a few days ago I was really stumped as to what I could do to attract more clients. I read over a tonne of blog posts, and found a few ideas that I’d try implementing. Please feel free to add any other ideas in the comments below.
1. Get some custom mugs made, and send them to potential clients
This sounds crazy, but I’ve seen it work. At my old marketing agency we received a few mugs from a company that provided content writing services. After checking their website out we ended up using them as a content supplier.
Shortlist 25 – 50 idea clients and send them a free branded mug, along with a letter explaining your services and what you can do for them. You can get a bunch of custom mugs made from Vistaprint for about £8 per mug.
2. Get a mobile app built
There are some amazing mobile app services available. Mobile Roadie create amazing iPhone apps, but they’re not exactly cheap. That said, the power of a mobile app is arguably worth the investment over a standard mobile website. If your company offers a service that would benefit from getting customers interacting with each other, or using push notifications, a mobile app might be a great option.
3. Change your email signature
This might seem like an obvious one, but it’s a huge opportunity. Most of us send hundreds, maybe even thousands of emails per year and we forget that our email signature is a great place to promote a message to people who are likely going to be potential customers.
4. Run Facebook Ads / Google Ads
Google usually sends out ‘£50 free tokens’ to try Adwords. Unfortunately, Facebook don’t seem to do this quite as much, but it’s still worth trying to see whether you can attract clients through online ads.
5. Give a talk at a conference
Speaking at conferences is great – not only do you save money on high-priced conference tickets, but you also get more exposure at the event, whilst presenting yourself as an expert in your field. Apply to speak to conferences as a means of promoting your business.
