Top Teesside restaurant named amongst the best
A top Teesside bistro has again been named as one of the best in the area.
Howards, in Stokesley, has been included in one of the UK’s most important restaurant guides for the fourth consecutive year- the only one on Teesside to do so.
The Harden’s UK Restaurant Survey is the biggest annual survey of restaurant-goers in the UK, based on independent and unbiased reports, and providing straightforward reviews.
Howards is the only restaurant on Teesside to be recommended by Harden’s 2013 guide, having also featured in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The guide, described as ‘The UK’s most helpful and informative guide’, praises Howards for being ‘value for money’ and a ‘smart village diner’ with ‘unusual dishes’. It also commends the bistro for its popular takeaway dishes.
Howards is included in the Harden’s Guide alongside big names such as The Ritz, Claridge’s, The Ivy, Heston Blumenthal and Michel Roux Jnr and well known chains such as Pizza Express, Ask and Carluccio’s restaurants.
Family-run Howard’s prides itself on working with local suppliers and employing local people with all of the 15 staff living within a 10 mile radius of Stokesley.
The bistro was taken over by local businessman, Graham Howard, and his family in 2008 and has continued to grow in popularity thanks to its mix of its Market Menu, family favourite dishes and seasonally-changing menus.
Graham Howard said: “At Howards we’ll never chase Michelin stars or AA Rosettes because we want to offer our solid customer base what they have come to expect from us- high quality, creative dishes in a very relaxed atmosphere. It’s an uncertain marketplace for restaurant-owners at the moment but we’re very consistent in what we do and how we do it- as the Harden’s Guide proves. To be included for a fourth time is very encouraging- but we’ll never rest on our laurels and we’re always researching our markets.”
