The jobs picture

Today the ONS will release the latest UK jobs figures. The last few batches have caused some head scratching due to growth in employment and poor economic performance.

World unemployment is expected to reach 202 million in 2013, according to projections by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) this week.

The ILO’s report suggests that some workers will experience “occupational downgrading,” where they are forced to take a job subordinate to their skill level. If this is accurate, what repercussions might this have in later years of recovery?
