Nottingham SMEs offered £1,500 internship grants
SMEs will be offered £1,500 grants to take on University of Nottingham students as part of an internship programme run by Santander.
Ten businesses will receive the grant for employing students for a 12 week period starting any time before the end of June this year, and Santander’s grant will make up half the student’s salary.
The initiative was launched by the bank through the Santander Universities Global Division, which will offer SME internships to more than 500 students across the UK this year.
Luis Juste, director of Santander Universities UK, said: “I am very pleased that The University of Nottingham has agreed to take part in the Santander Universities internship programme.
“Small businesses can really benefit from the expertise of students. They can add significant value by for example, working on an important project or piece of research that the business would not normally have the time to undertake.
“In addition, they also inject fresh, innovative ideas to help give the business a competitive edge.”
Micheal Carr, director of business engagement at the University, added: “We are very keen to support local businesses and have a range of programmes to do this.
“The Santander internship programme adds to this portfolio of support activity and means that local small and medium sized companies have even more incentive to take on a talented University student to help improve their performance.”
Currently, Santander is in collaboration with 66 British universities, and has connections with 1,040 academic institutions in America, Asia and Europe.
