Construction work rises at tail end of 2012
Output in the construction industry grew by 0.9% in quarter four last year, with the biggest rise of 5.9% in the private housing sector.
Infrastructure work contributed 4.2% growth to the overall figures, however public non-housing projects dragged totals down with a 4.9% drop work volumes.
Housing repairs and maintenance also dented overall figures with a 4.8% fall while new maintenance jobs dropped by 0.9%.
Although the Office of National Statistics’ (ONS) figures show a rise between the third and fourth quarter in 2012, they represent a 9.3% decrease in comparison with the same period in 2011.
Furthermore, when compared with the previous year, all new work was down 11.6% while repair and maintenance dropped by 4.7%.
