Last call for North East construction award entries

Entries for the ninth Constructing Excellence in the North East awards, celebrating the regional construction industry and its achievements are set to close on Friday February 22.

The awards, seen as one of the highlights of the construction calendar in our region, will be held on Friday May 10, 2013 at the Newcastle Marriot Gosforth Park Hotel.

There are 14 categories for individuals or companies to enter which include awards for collaborative working, innovation and sustainability as well as individual and project of the year.

The winner of each category will go on to compete in the National Constructing Excellence Awards, held in London in the Autumn.

Last year’s integration and collaborative working award winner, Laing O’Rourke, who were recognised regionally for the work they did with Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust went on to win at the national Constructing Excellence awards at the end of last year.

Laing O’Rourke regional director Dan Doherty said: “Receiving the regional award was a proud moment for the whole team, recognising that trust and partnership working had added real value to the end-user experience at Ferndene. We were delighted that the project went on to win at the national awards, showcasing on a larger platform what is achievable when the client, delivery partner and supply chain focus on the best possible outcomes for patients.”

This year will see Constructing Excellence in the North East celebrate ten years as the North East’s regional partner to the national body Constructing Excellence. In that time, the organisation has seen the importance of construction in local areas increase dramatically, but has also seen the impact the economic climate has had on the industry nationwide.

Catriona Lingwood, chief executive of Constructing Excellence in the North East, said: “In our tenth year, and with the events of the economic downfall, it is vital we celebrate the importance of our industry, giving significant praise to those making a positive difference to the future of construction in our region.”

Ian Storer, Director of Corepeople Recruitment, headline sponsor of the awards for the third year running, said: “These awards have built up a reputation as one of the must-attend events in the North East construction sector. It is a great opportunity to celebrate what is good about the industry, something which, with the current economic climate, is more important than ever.”

Entries for the awards close at 5.00pm on Friday February 22. To find out more about the categories, or to download an application form, visit http://www.cene.org.uk/awards/.
