Businesses to have their say on regulators' activities
Two consultations have been launched to re-shape the way regulators work with business.
The Government intends to look at how standards can be upheld without causing barriers to growth and enterprise.
Businesses are invited to contribute to a “growth duty” for regulators, and views are being sought on an updated Regulators’ Code.
The growth duty will cover approximately fifty non-economic regulators with a combined budget of around £4bn and a workforce of 55,000.
They include the Health and Safety Executive, the Environment Agency, and the Highways Agency.
Mr Fallon said: “The quality of information, guidance and enforcement delivered by regulators directly affects the ability of a business to grow and succeed. So I’m inviting firms to help us craft a new settlement that supports enterprise without compromising standards.”
A new Regulators’ Code will replace the Regulators’ Compliance Code, setting out what businesses can expect from regulators.
The six-week growth duty consultation will close on 19 April. The eight-week regulators’ code consultation will close on 03 May. For more information, or to contribute, businesses are invited to visit: http://www.bis.gov.uk/brdo/publications.
