J&B Recycling aiming to be the best

A North East recycling firm is in line for a prestigious national award after proving itself one of the best waste management companies in the business.

J & B Recycling has been shortlisted for the honour of Waste Management Business of the Year in the National Recycling Awards.

The industry awards are seen as the most respected within the waste management sector and attract hundreds of entrants ahead of a glittering ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

J & B Recycling’s shortlisting comes just weeks after the company won the Corporate Responsibility and Environment category at the Teesside heats of the North East Business Awards.

Managing Director Vikki Jackson-Smith said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be shortlisted as Waste Management Business of the Year because these are the highest honours within the recycling industry.

“We had to put forward a case that demonstrated how we had grown a strong, successful business with tangible improvements, innovations and creative solutions.

“It’s incredible to think how far J & B Recycling has come and we are now gaining recognition as one of the most forward-thinking and innovative waste management firms in the country.”

J & B Recycling, which employs 145 staff at premises in Hartlepool, Redcar and Stockton, submitted an awards entry which demonstrated how it had introduced innovative new services and processes to ensure that both the waste material it receives and the output it sells on are of the highest possible quality.

This was supported by the company demonstrating a substantial increase in year-on-year turnover and profits within a very competitive market place.

Organisers of the National Recycling Awards said: “Winners demonstrate effective strategy, tangible improvement, innovative and creative solutions, and a strong business case. They, and those who are shortlisted, are the very best in our industry.”

J & B Recycling hopes to claim a hat-trick of awards this year after claiming the title of Star Radio Business of the Year and the Corporate Responsibility and Environment Award in the North East Business Awards in recent weeks.

The business was also named Hartlepool’s Business of the Year in 2011.

Mrs Jackson-Smith, who is a regular speaker at national recycling conferences, added: “While winning awards doesn’t automatically double your turnover and profits, it does raise your profile and gets you recognised as an innovator.

“But more importantly it is fantastic recognition for the hard work and dedication of the staff here. They are the ones who come up with the ideas that make our business a success.

“We have been very successful with awards this year and to top it off with the title of Best Waste Management Business in the country would be amazing.”

J & B Recycling will find out if it takes the honour when the National Recycling Awards are presented in London on July 3.
