Morgan Sindall appointed to £7.9m Hull project

North West-based developer Morgan Sindall has been appointed to two projects on the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme in Hull.

The construction and infrastructure firm, who has offices in Liverpool, Manchester and London, will start work on the new £5m Bridgeview School campus in Hessle and the £2.9m refurbishment of the Northcott School in Bransholme.

Work at the Bridgeview school will cater for the needs of 30 pupils with specialist educational needs, while the Northcott project will see the creation of an indoor sport facilities and residential sites for students’ families.

Morgan Sindall was appointed to the £400m Hull BSF scheme in November 2009, led by the Hull Esteem Consortium which is made up of Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd, Robertson Capital Projects and Hull-based Sewell Group.

This partnership will create 19 new schools in the area before the end of next year.

Chris Brown, area director for Morgan Sindall, said: “It is recognised that school surroundings have a profound effect on the mind-set of those who attend.

“The positive results of the BSF scheme are already being felt in Hull, which is reaping the benefits of having an education estate to be proud of.

“These special schools not only provide excellent learning facilities for their pupils, but vital services for their families, and the refurbished buildings will bolster the good work achieved at the schools.”

The Hull Esteem Consortium awarded Morgan Sindall a contract in August 2012 to work on the £19.2m St Mary’s College campus, which involves the construction of a 70,000 sq ft specialist teaching block.

The business has also delivered three further school construction deal worth a combined £64.5m which were all completed at the beginning of 2013.
