Colliers secures two sites for McCarthy and Stone

The retail development team at Colliers International has acquired two new sites for McCarthy & Stone in West Yorkshire.

Britain’s leading builder of retirement homes recently appointed the Leeds office of Colliers to look at potential sites across the north of England.

The first site at Belle Vue Mills in Skipton, which already has planning approval for 35 open market ‘Later Living’ apartments, was acquired from The Rushbond Group. The former textile mill, dating from 1757 in Skipton’s conservation area, was converted in 2011 to become an award-winning mixed use development.

Colliers has also secured a site on Squirrel Way in Shadwell for McCarthy & Stone from Leeds City Council. A consultation is underway to secure planning approval to deliver 60 open market ‘Assisted Living’ apartments.

Richard Watson, director at Colliers International in Leeds, said: “The Leeds office of Colliers International is delighted to have worked with McCarthy and Stone in securing these excellent sites for them. They are two well-placed strategic sites in locations that have been sought after by the company for many years.”

McCarthy & Stone is the most recognised developer of privately owned retirement property in the UK. Over the past 30 years it has built 45,000 apartments nationwide.

Chris Watson, regional land director at McCarthy & Stone, said: “McCarthy & Stone has been delighted with the level of professionalism and client service received from Colliers International whilst acquiring these exciting opportunities. We make a great team and hope to continue to work together to achieve our challenging land acquisition target of one per month for the Northern region.”
