Take a Looka Teesside for creative and digital
THE BEST and brightest the region has to offer will be given the chance to show just how much talent there is on Teesside in a two day festival of digital and creative industries.
Featuring live music, street performances, pop-up galleries, fashion shows, arts and crafts fairs, film showings and digital design displays, Looka Teesside will transform Stockton-On-Tees into a hive of activity from June 1-2.
And as part of the festival, a number of local digital companies from DigitalCity, including Pixel Brawl and Undercurrent, will be exhibiting new games, apps and other work to the public.
The digital section of the festival takes place in the newly opened for business DigitalCity Stockton building at 62 Dovecot Street, the use of which has been given to the organisers by DigitalCity Business, and promises to be one of the highlights of the weekend.
From 10am – 4.30pm on Saturday, June 1, representatives from the region’s digital industry will be giving interactive displays, talking about their work and networking with other digital companies and members of the public.
DigitalCity Business, together with Stockton Council has thrown its weight behind the project, which has also benefited from a number of local sponsors.
Organiser Stephen Irving, a member of the Stockton branch of DigitalCity Business, said: “Looka Teesside is all about showcasing the creative talent that is available in Teesside and making people aware of it. Digital companies may not be the first thing that pops into peoples’ heads when they think of ‘creatives’ but it should not be overlooked.
“Teesside has a wealth of digital companies that are producing amazing apps, games, websites and designs that require a lot of creativity. The artwork that is produced, the imagination that goes into an idea, even the ‘behind the scenes’ work done by programmers is incredibly creative.
“As a member of Digital City Business myself, with friends and family who work in digital businesses and a regular participant in DCB activities and talks, I am well aware of the digital talent that is available in the area; and I wanted to give them the opportunity to showcase what they do to the general public.”
Mark Elliott, chief executive of DigitalCity Business, said: “Digital industries are one of the most thriving parts of the region’s creative industries so it is very appropriate they are represented at Looka Teesside.
“With our new Stockton building open this is also a great opportunity for people to come in and see what we’re all about.”
But Looka isn’t all about the digital industry.
With an impressive line-up of top local bands, artists and performers you won’t want to miss out.
There’ll also be the opportunity to speak to all the performers both before and after their shows.
So come along, take a look around and help support local talent!
