Wet summers: Alternative to out of control lawns
With another wet summer expected, home owners are being advised that they can enjoy the rare dry days in the garden – rather than spend it tending the lawn.
“When dry days are so infrequent, gardeners have to take advantage of the opportunity to cut the lawn before the rain returns and miss out on the chance to get pleasure from their gardens,” said Dan Foskett, Managing Director of artificial grass retailer Grass Direct (www.grass-direct.co.uk). The company has seen sales grow fourfold in the last year.
“Last summer was so wet that people never had the chance to really take advantage of having a lawn, it became a burden and that is not why most people pay extra for a home with a nice garden.
“The wet weather creates a cycle making lawn management difficult; as the grass gets longer, it takes more time to dry out enough to be mown.”
However, the growth in popularity of artificial grass is showing that home owners are looking for an alternative, which will ensure that every sunny day can be enjoyed.
Additionally, artificial grass is ideal for people who either simply dislike gardening, or are unable to manage their own lawns, through ill health or advancing age.
Dan said: “What you get is a lawn which never needs mowing and always looks a perfect idyllic green?
“As well as older or infirm people, or even those who are simply lazy, artificial grass is great for student landlords or golf fanatics, and we have even installed it indoors in the non-playing areas of a top indoor football centre.
“No mowing is required, so owners save time, as well as the cost and space needed to buy and store mowers or strimmers, plus there is no need to buy lawn seen or any other fertilisers and weed killers. There is no muddiness after a downpour, or thin patches from walking on the lawn.
“Also, hosepipe bans become less of a worry, and artificial grass offers a porous alternative to paving over front lawns, reducing a growing flood risk. Whether the weather is too wet or too dry, the solution is the same – artificial grass.”
A range of grass types is available, from a lush thick lawn to a “putter’s paradise” for golf fans. Easy maintenance levels ensure that stains such as animal mess are easy to deal with.
Grass Direct quickly sends out free, no-obligation samples, so that potential customers can get a feel for the product before committing to buy. The products are also UV stable, so hold their colour well.
