Work begins on historic Park Valley Mills site
Work has begun on the major regeneration of the historic 13-acre Park Valley Mills site in Lockwood, Huddersfield.
The flagship site, which is owned by Holmfirth Dyers, is being transformed into a high-quality business park, featuring 18 brand-new industrial units with office and storage space.
The site had previously been derelict for many years, with buildings falling into disrepair.
It is now hoped the site, off Meltham Road in Lockwood, will bring new jobs and regenerate the area, as there is a distinct lack of supply of high-quality units in Huddersfield.
Holmfirth Dyers managing director Martin Duckett explained that work on Phase One of the development, which will create six new industrial units for lease, was now underway. Two units are already spoken for.
He said: “Our intention was to demolish the old buildings which were in an advanced state of disrepair and to replace them with attractive and practical modern units from around 2,200 sq ft capable of being adapted to suit tenants’ requirements.
“Our hope is to create opportunities for local businesses and to encourage them to come to a site in attractive peaceful surroundings yet situated close to the centre of Huddersfield.”
Mike Haigh, partner with Leeds property consultancy Dove Haigh Phillips, commented: “Holmfirth Dyers must be congratulated on building speculatively in a challenging commercial property market.
“The company has tremendous faith in the Huddersfield area and is looking forward to welcoming new occupiers to this site, which has a proud history and a great future.”
