Belfry Group MD awarded for eco-friendly innovation
Warrington-based firm Belfry Group’s managing director has been honoured with a prestigious award for his eco-friendly heating system invention.
Keith Rimmer was awarded with Ernst & Young’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneurial Award for Cleantech and Energy after he developed the “EcoPod”, which is a heating system designed to reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions for large buildings.
Belfry Group is a heating and maintenance group based at Winwick Quay in Warrington.
Mr Rimmer said: “When I first came up with the idea for EcoPod I never expected it would lead to awards like this.
“It gives me an enormous sense of pride to know that we are not only helping to secure local employment in the service sector, which is an ever growing market, but we are also continuing to build on one of this country’s great strengths - manufacturing quality, innovative products which will benefit the masses.
“A lot of people do a great job of talking our economy down but I firmly believe life is what you make of it, and the team at Belfry are making it happen.
“EcoPod is a truly innovative solution which reduces carbon emissions by 40%-plus, and delivers certified savings of 43%-plus on annual heating bills.
“It is helping to lead the fight against fuel poverty, which is a major issue in the UK, and it gives me great satisfaction to say it was designed and built right here in Warrington.”
Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year awards awarded 12 business leaders at the ceremony in 11 categories, which were judged from 48 entrepreneurs across the North West, Yorkshire and the North East.
Finalists will represent their region in the UK finals in Autumn, while national winners will go on to the international Ernst & Young’s World Entrepreneur of The Year awards in Monaco next year.
