Yorkshire’s Snugpak secures $5m export order
The UK’s leading sleeping bag manufacturer, Snugpak, based in Silsden, West Yorkshire, has secured its largest ever order, worth over US $5 million.
The deal, which is from an unamed export customer and is the largest in the company’s history, encompasses a selection of Snugpak’s best-selling products, including the manufacturers popular Softie filled range of sleeping bags and accompanying waterproof bivvi bags.
The order, which is to be delivered over the next twelve months, is predominantly for items which will be manufactured in Snugpak’s Silsden production facility.
Its dedicated team of around 50 employees uses a combination of state-of-the-art computer controlled quilting machinery and hand sewing techniques in the manufacturing process at its Grade 2 listed woollen mill premises.
Darren Burrell, Snugpak’s sales director, said: “It is something we have been working towards for the past two years and we’re pleased to finalise the contract so we can concentrate on what we do best - making great British products.”
Winner of two Queen’s Export Awards in 2002 and 2009, Snugpak is the only British company still producing performance synthetic filled clothing and sleeping bags in the UK for the military and outdoor markets.
