Green incentives can be a boost for the radiator industry
The advancement of Government initiatives to support domestic green power generation can prove a boost to the continued success of the radiator industry, according to MARC, the Manufacturers’ Association of Radiators and Convectors.
Research conducted by academics and industry experts from across Europe highlighted the strength of radiators in conjunction with technology such as heat pumps, leading to a greater awareness among installers that retro-fitting for efficiency need not involve replacing steel panels.
By combining such technology with radiators, instead of other emitter types, the installation cost is significantly reduced, increasing the potential return on investment from the Government’s Renewable Heat Initiative (RHI).
John Colling, chairman of MARC, said: “The RHI offers a tariff rate for people using technology such as heat pumps and solar PV panels in their homes. However, if the cost of the installation is increased by having to pay more for the products which emit the heat then it is natural that the length of time it takes to repay that cost is increased.
“By fitting these products alongside either existing, or even new steel panel radiators, this installation cost drops significantly, meaning the returns are also increased. With the research out there showing that radiators are as efficient as competitor products, when working with lower water temperatures, as well as the recent European decision not to label air source heat pumps as unsuitable for use with radiators, this can be a big boost for our industry.”
