Caddick's £2.3m York fire station development gets underway
Structural steelwork is being delivered and erected at Leeds-based Caddick Construction’s £2.3m development for a new fire station on Kent Street in York.
Approximately 80 tonnes is being transported to the 10,764 sq ft site in the heart of the City. A 37-week programme has now commenced to construct the framework of the station.
The new fire station will comprise of three vehicle bays and further facilities ranging from office space to a training tower, in the rear yard.
The station, which replaces the existing station at Clifford Street, has been designed to provide a more modern working environment and meet the needs of the modern Fire Service.
Chris Allot, contracts manager at Caddick Construction, commented: “It’s great at last to see the steelwork going up and the development coming out of the ground with the investment finally taking shape.
“We have been able to get a lot of the external ground works completed during the good weather and hopefully this will continue.
“The project in York is well underway with the delivery of the steel frames; this is a crucial and monumental stage of the building process.”
Construction of the new fire station is expected to be completed at the beginning of 2014.
