PM needed to freshen up government departments

The Prime Minister’s failure to bring new blood into key government departments is bad news for small businesses.

David Cameron should have used this week’s reshuffle as an opportunity to inject new life into the government’s economic strategy, but instead he has left the job to the people who have so far failed to stand up for SMEs.

Small firms want to see concrete action on credit, regulation, tax, and economic stability, but instead they have been left with a signal that the government intends to continue with a strategy that has failed to deliver the support that small businesses need.

It is time for fresh thinking in BIS and beyond, but on Tuesday the Prime Minister refused to deliver the new ideas that SMEs so desperately need.
