NARC partners with New Writing North for North East literary mag
North East music magazine NARC and writing development agency New Writing North have teamed up to launch a bi-annual literary title, Cuckoo Press.
Aimed at under 23-year-olds, the magazine will be distributed across schools, colleges and universities in the North East and aims to provide a platform for young writers.
It will feature poetry, prose and reviews alongside tips for writers.
NARC editor, Claire Dupree, said: “I’ve long been a fan of the work New Writing North do in the region, in particular of the support they offer young people.
“Their Cuckoo Review and Cuckoo Quarterly online platforms are a must-read, and I’m often astounded at the quality of work on offer by young people just starting out.
“It’s been a longterm ambition for the Cuckoo folk to produce a print magazine so we got our heads together and, using my knowledge of print publications and their wonderful contributors, we’ve come up with Cuckoo Press, a bi-annual literary magazine containing fiction, poetry and reviews, run and edited by under 23-year-olds and published by NARC. and New Writing North. We’re so excited to get the first issue out, due to hatch at the end of November.”
Anna Disley, programme director at New Writing North, added: “Cuckoo Press’ partnership with NARC is genuinely exciting because we will be reaching new readers with high quality work by emerging creative writers. At the same time offering readers of Narc a taste of something a little different.”
