60k Leeds Bradford passengers this half term signals future investment and jobs

Huge numbers of passengers are set to fly through Yorkshire’s biggest airport this October, a 15% increase on last year.

It is the UK’s fastest growing airport, and it’s collaborations with Monarch and BA, as well as the increase in choice destinations, far more internationally spread than in previous years, and the increased frequencies of popular flights that have put it in league with rivals in other Northern city airports such as Manchester and Newcastle.

This growth in traffic promotes the region and supports the economy against regional competitors, driving inbound traffic in the form of business as well as tourism.

Marketing Director Tony Hallwood has said that it was the aim of LBIA to “support and sustain local economy.”

The airport already employs 2700 people from the area and projections for the future are that more will be needed to keep up with the expansion of the airport.

This follows on the back of Jet 2 bringing a number of jobs back to the Yorkshire area by moving their call centre operations to Leeds, as well as expanding their operations at the airport itself.
