Specialist Liverpool law firm takes new space, plans expansion
A boutique Liverpool law firm is celebrating its fourth birthday with new offices as it targets major growth in the near future.
Cope & Co, a specialist commercial law firm, has taken space at Castle Chambers on Castle Street, as it looks to expand further in the next year.
Founded by former DLA Piper and Addleshaw Goddard solicitor Paul Cope, the firm offers the type of specialist advice traditionally associated with larger firms.
Mr Cope saw an opportunity to offer high quality specialist advice but with a fixed fee structure and a personal service often lacking elsewhere.
Cope said “The industry is going through seismic change, but many firms are stuck in their ways and are either unwilling or unable to adapt to new ways of working. Cope & Co was set up to meet those new expectations and offer the same expertise priced in a way that suited client needs.”
Four years after its launch, the firm is working with businesses of the calibre of Keppie Massie and Handelsbanken. It has also recently hired Elizabeth Morris, a commercial property expert, who has worked with leading law firms Brabners and Weightmans, and in-house with Peel Ports and Co-op, and Jennifer Cope from DLA Piper who specialises in commercial litigation.
Mr Cope said: “When clients come to us they get qualified, experienced solicitors. Recruiting the right people is key to our philosophy.
“We’re very careful in hiring people that complement our existing experiences and have the entrepreneurial drive and commitment to service that is at the heart of the business and, above all else, are people that clients want to work with.”
He sees the firm’s new premises as a platform for further growth and expansion, and added: “We spent a long time looking for the right office. We’ve got somewhere that suits us now as a business, but will also allow us to take on new staff and expand as we continue to win more work. We’re looking forward to 2014 being a big year for us.”
