Joint venture to give Liverpool The Edge
Property investment firm Knight Knox International has revealed plans for a Joint Venture £12.9m student accommodation development near Liverpool city centre.
City planners have given the go-ahead for the seven-storey development, to be known as ‘X1 The Edge’ in Seymour Street. The building will comprise 231 en-suite rooms.
The joint venture, between Knight Knox and Liverpool-based X1 Developments, adds to a portfolio of developments the firms have launched together across the region, including X1 Arndale House and X1 Chapel Street.
X1 The Edge is scheduled for completion in September 2015.
The companies say the scheme will help to alleviate what they describe as an “acute undersupply” of student housing in Liverpool.
Both the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University have enjoyed a surge in admissions this year.
X1 The Edge will be the fifth successful project that the two companies have launched in Liverpool over the past 18 months, including student developments X1 Borden Court and X1 Arndale House, and X1 The Quarter, a five-phase residential development in Liverpool’s Waterfront Quarter, the first three phases of which were launched in August this year.
Knight Knox International said: “Situated on Seymour Street, a thriving high-street in the centre of Liverpool, the private-student residence will be within walking distance of both Liverpool John Moores University and the University of Liverpool and will also be just a five-minute walk away from Liverpool Lime Street railway station.
“Once complete, students will have exclusive access to a number of resident-only facilities, including a private courtyard, launderette and secure bicycle storage.”
