Energy revolution?

The UK Government has said it wants to see an “Energy Revolution” led by the Public? How serious is this desire and how soon do you think it will be before they realise that a real energy revolution will not only affect the Big 6 but themselves also?

The only real way to create that energy revolution and take us from the “Big 6 to the Big 60,000” as stated by the Energy Minister, Michael Fallon who suggested consumers boycott energy firms like SSE because of their “greedy fuel price increases”, is to provide agressive support and technologies to make it possible.

Whatever your stance, whatever your financial circumstances it should not escape your notice that these energy price increases only serve to put more UK citizens into fuel poverty and to increase profits for the energy firms still further. It is not good enough that energy bosses blame the politicians or that politicians blame the energy bosses because they are all to blame for the forthcoming energy crisis.

The fight back has to come from the consumer and / or a new type of energy company that can deliver low cost energy all of the time, not just when they are under pressure to do so. The answer lies within the Renewable Distributed Energy Network. This is the part of the energy industry that can bring energy to us all from renewable resources such as the sun, wind, water and even the ground we walk on.

The reason it cannot roll out fast enough is the lack of real support from the government, typically high installation costs, slow to no return on investment for the buyer or investor and poor performing technology. But still, here is where investment needs to be made to rapidly improve the availability of low cost green energy if we are to make the difference required.

Distributed Energy Networks are starting to surface. In Holland recently a community bought a wind turbine to provide their own renewable energy needs, This is Distributed Energy Networks in action. We need to see more of these projects here in the UK not just more energy companies with wind turbines which are always part funded by UK Government. Subsidies are helpful and help reduce risk in renewables but they will be removed at some stage, so plan for it now.

We need more efficient renewable energy technologies that cost less over time to install and run, systems that can operate all day and night without regard for the weather or light levels, we need a sea change in thinking from all walks of life including engineers, service providers, investors, banks and angel investors if we are to take advantage of the opportunity that is facing us now and could soon overtake us all - Energy Blackout’s!
