New Home For Henderson's Relish

The manufacturer of one of Sheffield best-loved products, Henderson’s Relish, has moved into a new home at JF Finnegan’s acclaimed 58 acre Sheffield Parkway Business Park.

After starting life in Sheffield over one hundred years ago, spicy condiment Henderson’s Relish has been in uninterrupted production within half a mile of the original site on Broad Lane from which the first bottle was filled.

The renowned local company has now purchased a double hybrid unit 2A/B comprising around 5,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art food production space including offices and warehouse facilities on Site 5 of Sheffield Parkway Business Park to ensure it has the best, modern facilities to meet the high levels of demand for the popular product.

Henderson’s Relish joins a host of high profile occupiers such as WH Smith, Ferrari Pistons Services and Costco at JF Finnegan’s flagships scheme which over the last decade has transformed the former wholesale markets site into one of South Yorkshire’s most popular business parks with some 800,000 sq ft of business and manufacturing space next to Junction 33 of the M1.

The final phase of the development saw 100,000 sq ft speculatively built over five sites with the support of Objective One funding and has attracted such tenants as Synergy Health PLC, Arkote Ltd and Property Pasty Company Ltd.

Nick Gillott, Director at JF Finnegan, said; “The long term vision for Sheffield Parkway Business Park was to accommodate a range of manufacturing and industrial operations in-keeping with the site’s formative usages. With the letting to Henderson’s Relish we are cementing this vision and it is entirely fitting to have a company with so much local history joining a development with such a significant background. We are delighted to be welcoming the team behind the famous relish to join our tenant mix.”

According to Hendersons, famous fans of the condiment include Sheffield-born celebrities Sean Bean, Peter Stringfellow and Def Leppard’s Rick Savage. David Blunkett also used the spicy condiment when he cooked shepherd’s pie on The F-Word TV cookery programme.

Henderson’s Relish has been an inspiration to several Sheffield artists who have produced pieces about the product. Artists such as Pete McKee, Kid Acne and Jim Connolly have all released prints offering their own unique take on the cult relish.
