Newcastle Airport invests nearly £1 million in entrances
Newcastle International Airport has invested nearly £1 million in an overhaul of its entrances with automatic doors from Finnish firm KONE.
The new state-of-the-art automatic doors are designed to improve access to the building for passengers and increase eco efficiency.
The new doors allow the flow of people through significantly quicker than the previous revolving doors. They are also spaced wide enough so that the likelihood of both being open at the same time and letting in the prevailing wind from outside is reduced.
Richard Knight, operations director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “Just under a million pounds has been invested in replacing the terminal doors over a two phase programme at Newcastle International Airport.
“The old doors within the airport have been in constant use since they were installed 13 years ago. We’re a 24 hour operation and this development ensures we continue to offer the best facilities possible for our passengers.
“The investment will enhance passenger journeys through the airport. The glazed units offer a smooth entrance and exit to the terminal and keep the temperature within the terminal comfortable for our passengers.”
The previous doors were rotating which kept the foyer insulated, but their energy consumption was high. KONE’s sliding doors open faster than the previous doors and were also designed with the aesthetics of the terminal in mind.
