TyneMet College Students receive Boxing Masterclass from GB Star Amanda Coulson
On the 11th December 2013 TyneMet College received a special visit from inspirational GB boxing star Amanda Coulson.
TyneMet College won the visit from Amanda Coulson after submitting a fantastic story to Sport England about their ‘Move It!’ campaign, one of their outstanding projects that has encouraged more students to take up sport.
Amanda is one of Sport England’s Sporting Champions – a team of current and retired elite athletes, many of whom competed at London 2012.
Amanda Coulson said: “I really enjoyed my visit to TyneMet - the students were all eager to take part in my workshop and were quick to learn the basic boxing moves that I introduced to them.
“I felt my visit was a huge success - with over 100 students coming through the sports hall doors to see what was on offer. The aim of my visit was to increase the number of students at TyneMet College to regularly take part in sport…and I believe this was a fantastic springboard to make this happen!”
Sarah Bennett, TyneMet College Sport Maker, said:
“We were delighted to have had this visit from Amanda; our students were really excited about having the opportunity to join her Boxing Masterclass
“Amanda was amazing with the students they all said that being taught by a world class athlete was something that they would never forget!
“Visits like this offer a fantastic inspirational and motivational experience to young people. Sporting Champions like Amanda bring with them their enthusiasm and passion for sport, they are eager to share their experiences which highlight the opportunities and benefits that sport can offer.”
