North East firms join Business Secretary in United Arab Emirates
Two North East firms have joined the Business Secretary Vince Cable on his trade mission to the United Arab Emirates.
Durham Tees Valley Airport-based International Fire Training Centre and Newcastle-based LED security lighting facilities Advanced LED Technology Ltd, both exhibited at Intersec, the security and safety industry expo.
Vince Cable is on a two-day trip to Dubai and Abu Dhabi as part of UKTI’s efforts towards increasing bilateral trade with the UAE in goods and services to £12 billion by 2015.
Gary Watson, business operations manager for the International Fire Training Centre, said: “The International Fire Training Centre has a history of training fire fighters from various Middle Eastern airports. Serco has been investing heavily in new equipment, technology and resources at IFTC to further enhance the overall customer experience.
“Intersec provides the perfect opportunity to showcase these capabilities and to meet current and potential customers.”
Keith Fenwick, managing director at Advanced LED Technology Limited, said: “We regard the Middle East as a very important export market and the assistance we have received from UKTI has been excellent.”
In Abu Dhabi Dr Cable also attended the World Future Energy Summit where he promoted UK interests in oil and technologies, and took part in a global leaders panel discussion on ‘the business of clean energy’.
