PM cheers businesses’ response to floods
The Prime Minister has welcomed efforts from businesses to help out those affected in the recent flooding episode.
Many of the major supermarkets have offered help, including Tesco and Morrison’s opening up of their distribution fleet to farmers who need hay and feedstocks moving.
Sainsbury’s have been distributing batteries, clothing, food provisions, torches, bottled water to some of the worst hit areas and Waitrose have provided food parcels.
The Asda Foundation has set up a special £400k fund for flood victims, including donations to buy waders, while Currys are offering essential electrical items such as kettles and fridges for use in relief centres.
B&Q have been involved in providing over 100 tonnes of sandbags to affected areas along the Thames.
Elsewhere, online holiday accommodation firm Airbnb are also offering waived fees on all bookings for flood victims.
