Bureaucratic or worse, delays in Long Marston House Purchase

Having reserved a home already completed at the Long Marston site outside Stratford, we were perplexed at the Long Delay oreventing us from proceeding, despite being cash buyers and having been told nothing of any such delays at the time of signing up.

Weeks passed before we received a reply to our email addressed to the conveyancing solicitors recommended by Persimmon who “were acting on behalf of many buyers” and when we did receive a cursory acknowledgement, mention was made of “legal delays” with the Land Registry. We were eventually driven to contacting the Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi who responded almost immediately with the information that the Ministry of Defense and the Land Registry between them were responsible for the paperwork relating to the release of leaseholds entre autres. He offered to make representation to the Ministry should we so desire it. Being cash buyers and with Persimmon anxious to sell homes, can this merely be a typically “No Minister” joke at the expense of us, and many other, house purchasers. Or is it something more sinister where a consipiracy of silence exists for other, less transparent reasons. We are now 8 weeks on and reluctant to appoint officially a solicitor and remit Search fees up front if indeed there is any likelihood of this being held up interminably by government departments who have no interest in the matter and therefore have nothing at risk to themselves individually or as a “department”, dare I say MoD for Ministry of Delays..

Hopeless. No wonder this country…. blah blah!
