Rotary to hear impact of economic plan

Views on potential developments in the borough are to be shared at a forthcoming meeting.

Kevan Carrick, principal at JK Property Consultants, will share his views on what the North East Strategic Economic Plan is likel to mean for property development in the region.

He will be speaking to members of Whitley Bay Rotary Club at their meeting on April 15, about the blueprints for the future of the region, which has been put together by the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

The draft plan calls for a strong governance structure, as well as new ways of working between different groups in the region and how they interact with the Government.

Mr Carrick said: “The plan is important to everyone in business in the north east and will have particular resonance for the property sector, both for housing and commercial development.

“I’m looking forward to speaking to the Rotary Club about how I think the plan will affect us regionally as there will be wide ranging and long lasting implications for us all.”

Whitley Bay Rotary Club meets every week and invites speakers to share their views on issues of importance to the region.

The 25 to 30-strong group is mainly made up of retired business people, who concentrate on community projects.

“We recently gave football jerseys to a local junior team and a TV to an old people’s home,” said member Eric Richards.

“Every year we provide the Whitley Bay town centre Christmas tree and we are currently planting trees alongside the bypass, which has now been named Rotary Road.

“Most of our members are retired, but like any service organisation, we’d like to recruit some younger people.

“It used to be a group that was aimed at managers or professionals but it is now much wider. We invite people to come along and if people like it, they can join. If you’d like to know more, please get in touch.”
